COBRA continuation coverage for former enrollees

COBRA allows certain people to keep their group health coverage for a limited time after it would normally end, usually after a job change, reduction in hours, or another qualifying event. It generally applies to employers that had at least 20 full‑time equivalent employees on more than 50% of typical business days in the prior calendar year and can extend coverage for enrolled employees, spouses, and dependents. When COBRA applies, eligible former enrollees can choose to continue the same group health coverage they had before the qualifying event, usually at their own cost and for a limited period based on the type of event.
