Exchange/Marketplace Plan Information

The federal Health Insurance Marketplace, also known as the "federal exchange," is an online platform (HealthCare.gov) where individuals and families can purchase affordable, ACA-compliant health insurance coverage. Some states operate their own exchange (for example, Washington HealthPlanFinder). The exchange allows you to:

1. Shop for health coverage
2. Compare different health insurance plans
3. Receive financial assistance subsidies
4. Enroll in healthcare plans

Two main types of financial assistance subsidies are available on the Exchange:

1. Advanced Premium Tax Credits (APTCs):

• Reduce monthly premium costs for marketplace plans
• Available to individuals and families with incomes within parameters of the Federal Poverty Level (FPL)

2. Cost-Sharing Reductions (CSRs):

• Lower out-of-pocket costs for deductibles, copayments, and coinsurance
• Available to those eligible for APTCs with incomes within specified parameters
• Only offered through silver-level plans
• Reduce cost-sharing to levels similar to gold or platinum plans

Eligibility for these subsidies depends on factors such as income, household size, and access to other coverage options like employer-sponsored insurance or Medicaid.
